The Caisteal Leodhais (Lews Castle) tartan was designed to capture the mystical spirit of the Outer Hebrides, the rich culture of the islanders and the storied history of Lews Castle. The purple and green are for the islands of Lewis and Harris. Black represents the peat that fulled life on the island for many centuries. Brown represents the Harris Tweed industry and the brown stones of Lews castle. Light blue is for Stornoway harbour and the golden yellow is for the Castle’s regal air.
